DOG/MEAT

Here is a video of Frank Zappa conducting the German Ensemble Modern during the Yellow Shark Concert in 1992, shortly before his death. This is a piece based on The Dog Breath Variations from the Uncle Meat Album composed for the Movie which was never finished in 1968. Absolutely stunning performance.

There was a DJ on the Cleveland State college station who had an all night show that was nothing but Zappa. As you might imagine, the coolest and strangest people listened and called in to chat and make their Zappa requests night after night. He was in full creative mode and had so much more to give us when he met his untimely death. Thanks for posting this.

Tight, at least. I like it and most of YellowShark, and it's quite complex musick, but it's sort of er, well, uptight (even compared to how he did this on Uncle Meat). Frank sometimes tries tooo hard, or somethin'------and the Copland-like or TV-show sounds a bit trite: he's more entertaining as he gets closer to jassss, or the best phunk-jazz sections of Overnite Sensation. In ways the early Steely Dan sort of did what FZ wanted to do a bit more effectively (a type of complex rock-jazz )tho' sans all the bogus pomp
