Sit back, relax, 17 minutes of a voyage along the thin line we all walked on between Cass and Second Avenue in Detroit City. A place where Hank Williams, Herbie Hancock,Sweet Peak Atkinson Kris Kristoffereson, Merle Haggard and Wayne Kramer all somehow exist together in the same time and space thanks to Don Was and Francis Ford Coppola...
A lost masterpiece...

Welcome back!
Here' the IMDB write-up.>
That Sweet Pea is a stone-cold cool motherfucker. I went to school at Wayne State and lived on Warren Street (or possibly 3rd--I can't remember now). Anyway, I met Don Was and saw Was (Not Was) a few times. Much as I liked that clip, what could possibly be the purpose of that movie? Guess it doesn't need a purpose. Music was pretty damn great. Thanks for post!
The movie seems to be a vey evocative atmospheric of the feelings that motivated Don Was to make his great country/soul fusion project that brought together Lyle Lovett and Al Green, George Jones and BB King, Tanya Tucker and Little Richard etc...
I was a resident of the Cass Corridor back in the late 60's...when country did meet soul....I don't think the movie needs any more justification than its success in evoking this unique time and place which you have to admit is long, long gone.....
Sweet Pea was working on an assembly line at Ford and really didn't have any real success as a singer until he started working with WasnotWas. And I agree with you assessment of Mr. Atkinson...it don't get better!
