I was able to watch the film Le Monde Selon Monsanto (The World According to Monsanto) last night on the French/German network ARTE. The documentary was released in 2008 by the French director, Marie-Monique Robin after 3 years of work on 4 continents. She documents the the world of lies, misleading research reports, corruption, collusion and the pressure tactics that one corporation has used to to systematically allow dangerously genetically modified foods into our diets with only one judge, Monsanto itself controlling the information regarding the safety.
The film documents Monsantos history of their environmental involvement with some of the most toxic chemicals ever produced. PCB's in Anniston, Alabama poisoned a generation of people and then they were allowed to walk away.
They produced Agent Orange , the cancer and birth defect causing defoliant sprayed over Vietnam. It contaminated more than 3 million civilians and thousands of American soldiers who were unable to claim benefits becaue with American government collusion, they were able to obtain court rulings with manipulated studies that proved that dioxin was not a cancer causing agent. Monsanto has a longhistory of being able to walk away from environmental and health litagation through bankruptcies and legal manouvers. They went from Asbestos to Plastics and then to chemical agricultural products in a series of reorganizations over the last 50 years.
But this is just the ground work, the back ground for the companies present role in Genetically Modified Organisms. They are attempting to control the agricultural food chain by their patented genetically modified seeds.
The film traces the companies role from Iowa to Paraguay, from England to India as they uproot our food supply and replace it with their own genetically engineered patented creations. Along the way, farmers, communities and nations become collateral damage.
This film will probably never be commercially shown in the United States. Monsanto has successfully fought critics with lobbying and money for years. Both Bush administrations, the Reagan and the Clinton adminsitrations have all been willing players and collaborators.
This movie is horrifying enough to freeze the blood in your veins! It should warrant your fury and open your eyes hopefully in enough time to join the concerned nations of the world in stopping Monsanto. The European Union is beginning to see the urgency of the problem, but it requires a movement from the bottom up. We the people have to demand that Monsanto be stopped. The ignorance of the masses has always played well into the hands of the devious elite.
One wonders, though, how long such a scheme might endure in this so-called enlightened time?
Perhaps the human mind is way-too mailable and too-easily propagandized. What else could explain how these ruses are continually played out on the ignorant masses of folks?
Just like the makers of Bayer asperin originated from the german company that produced zyclon - B -> anything to make a buck / reichsmark.
I cannot over state the impact that this film had on me. You have to see it to understand the scope of the emergency and the war against humanity that Monsanto is waging for their immediate profit.
