Here's a live performance by Red Baraat, an incredible Punjabi dohl n' brass band based in New York City. Somehow, Drummer Sunny Jain has created a fusion of Banghra rythmn, funk and jazz. The band is powered by Sunnys' dohl, the double sided drum played with the curved sticks. The performances are infectious and fun. I have never seen a rapper playing a sousaphone before!
They released their first cd, Chaal Baby in January of this year and are working on their second. You can participate in the production of Shaggy Ji through a micro investment program at their website.
You can listen to more of their music and learn about them at their website.
Red Baraat will be appearing in NYC at globalFEST 2011 which kicks off on January 9th at Webster Hall. globalFEST is the premier showcase for new world music in The USA!

The song in the video is Tunak Tunak Tun, which was a massive hit in India by the Sikh singer, Daler Mehndi. The video is just so crazy, the energy is just so wild that I had to include it as well!
Tunak Tunak Tun!
