I miss him and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Back in the early 70's when I discovered them, they surely were a part of my evolving dada/surreal esthetique.
Stanshall was more than any definiion of eccentric, he was a unique genius, a man out of time trapped in time.

I remember reading an account of his behaviour in the studio during the recording of Mike Oldfields, Tubular Bells...going from his extremely perfectly nuanced recitations to running around the studio screaming..."I need to fuck something, anything, NOW!"

Little wonder why Keith Moon was his best buddy.

The Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band played at a dance in the tech students' union in Manchester in 1967. Nobody danced! Everyone was transfixed by the crazy, wonderful show that the band put on.

I could have gone to see the Move instead, but I've always believed that I made the right choice.
