Strawberry Letter #23

This song was in my head today, but if you listen, this is not the version you probably remember. The version that was the big hit was by The Brothers Johnson, but it was written and originally recorded by Shuggie Otis in 1971. Shuggie is still playing today, but in the early 70's he melded funk, R&B and Rock and wrote some great songs. He is a great guitarist and the layered arpeggios at the end of the song are pretty neat! Shuggie is the son of the legendary Johnny Otis.

Dylan, Janis Joplin ...

What will the young teens of today remember as their signature songs?

There is so much good music out there, but you don't hear it on the radio. I was thinking about how much music influenced culture in the 60's early 70's...it was a form of trial communication. But it got crazy when we put pop stars on the level of philosophers. There were some great minds, but Dylan was just an artist, a human who went through changes. John Lennon's mythological status is what attracted the idiot who killed him killed him. Music mirrors the time, sometimes it's ahead of the time, sometimes it's behind...Much as I like hearing it in the background in shopping malls, is this the Pharrell Williams Happy generation?
