The 15th Night.....
Can you believe it? We have journied together, trudging across the tundra in our musical muckalucks, it is the fabled Fifteenth Night of Zappadan!
The fifteenth night where time becomes an unproven concept, we have no frame of temporal reference because, well frankly, the tape loop of our conceptual continuity has snapped....The video above is the Original line up of the Mothers of Invention, with Ian Underwood with the Royal Festival Hall Orchestra, performing a piece which evolved into "This Town Is A Sealed Tuna Sandwich" in 200 Motels, but this performance from 1968 is captured on the CD "Ahead Of Their Time" which is the performance of a "Play" called Progress.
Then a double treat, a 2 in 1, so to speak. A Video from the BBC from 1993. It has a very strangely disturbing but wonderful clay figure animation set to Frank's 1986 composition "Night School" from his Grammy Award Album, Jazz from Hell. Frank plays all the parts on the Synclavier.
The second part is a video made in 1979 for the song from the record of the same name, You Are What You Is. Frank has a great band, but the record is less pyrotechnical display of musicianship, than an attempt to package political and social commentary in the form of pop songs.
