Detroit City

Bobby Bare was born in 1935 in Ironton, Ohio. He wrote and released Detroit City in 1963, produced by Chet Atkins. He's still active and wrote the hit for Norways Eurovision entry, Things Change, just this year. But this iconic song about Detroit has always meant so much to me...Living in inner city Detroit in the mid 60's, I saw the edge, the fuzzy line where country and soul met and mixed. If you look at a map of inner city Detroit and look at the space between Cass and Second Avenues below side was soul, the other was redneck, but they all worked in the same factories and drank in the same bars.
