The Beastie Boys, around 1982. This is the band I remember sharing stages with at The A7 and the Pyramid on Avenue A in the East Village. A real punk band that played their own instruments, the drummer later went on to play with Luscious Jackson. Hard for me to believe that Adam Rauch was only 47...too young too hip too smart....Adam is the bass player in this version of the band.

Best selling rap band of all time? Three Jews from Brooklyn.
R.I.P. Mr. Rauch. You were a talent.
I knew Ad Rocks father for a while...he is a very respected author. When they were NYC Punk Band, they played CB's, The A7, The Pyramid...all the downtown sleazy clubs...but they were the really great guys to know and very supportive. They always told people that my intentionally bad band Mr. Bubble was their favorite band to play with....I think they understood what I was trying to do, which was playing games with the form of punk...and inadvertently stepping off the edge the cliff into dance, funk, noise grunge art....I could scream rock, but I certainly couldn't rap....I did do a lot of spoken word stuff....The Beasties were genius...
