l'Ecole des Facteurs

Perhaps after my last post on cycling, you might enjoy this 1947 short movie by Jacques Tati,  l'Ecole des Facteurs...The School for Postmen. The best collection of bicycle gags ever assembled. I hope it looks as good on your computer as it does on mine!

That is brilliant! thanks so much for posting that. Loved it - so many hilarious moments - the lesson, the free ride, the railway crossing, the bellringer in the church, the chopped shoe, the chase for his bike, and his dancing in the wine bar - sidesplittingly funny.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon the village St. Sevre, where much of this was filmed. Not much has changed....If you haven't seen Tati's, Jour de Fete then you must by all means...He uses a lot of the gags presented here and more, plus the rythym of a small French Town disrupted by its traditional Jour de Fete...
Marcel the postman gets really drunk....

Absolutely excellent! The accompanying music was most appropriate and remeinded me of some of the music that was attached to early cartoon classics.

Thanks Microdot - I wondered where it was filmed. It reminded me of parts of Salon de Provence - I'd have thought it was in Provence with those dry landscapes. Is St Sevre west of Paris? or is Sevre different to st sevre. Thanks for tip re Jour de Fete - haven't seen seen Tati for over 30 yrs.
Re bicycles and gags.
We ride unicycles as well as bikes in our household which provokes many comic remarks but no films with uni gags yet - videos but not comic ones. Our eccentric son pioneered unis in this household but we've found they're really useful for cities and rural settings (Mountain unicycles are called "munis") as they're more manoeuvrable and leave your hands free.
Please don't feel you have to answer - I'm flat out working to meet deadlines hence avoidance behaviour.

ahh, but I have to clarify my error...
It is Sainte Severe which is located in Indre, not far from La Chatre, or Nohant sur Vic where the George Sand Museum is located. That's how I stumbled upon it. I visited the George Sand Museum driving back from Dijon and stayed in the vicinity for 2 days and drove around the area.
It is where Jour de Fete was filmed as well. Suddenly, it all seemed so familiar.
